FA Cup: Hull City 0-2 Fulham

Hull City exited the FA Cup at the third round with a 2-0 defeat against Premier League side Fulham. Finishes in each half Layvin Kurzawa and Daniel James saw the Cottagers progress to the fourth round of the prestigious cup competition.

Liam Rosenior made eight changes to his starting XI to the one that defeated Wigan Athletic 4-1. Only Matt Ingram, Greg Docherty and Sean McLoughlin retained their places in the team for the club’s 300th FA Cup fixture, while new signing Aaron Connolly was named on the substitutes bench alongside the returning Benjamin Tetteh.

The Tigers had the first opportunities of the game, with Harvey Vale firing narrowly wide one-on-one with a left-footed effort before Lewie Coyle tested Marek Rodák with a low drive. Xavier Simons almost then picked out the run of Tyler Smith at the back post, but the forward narrowly missed the teasing delivery before the linesman raised his flag for offside.

Greg Docherty was next to take aim, seeing his first shot blocked by Tosin Adarabioyo before firing his second attempt high and wide of the Fulham goal. At the other end, Ingram pushed Andres Pereira’s left-footed effort over the bar, after being teed up by Carlos Vinícius, while ex-Tiger loanee Harry Wilson saw his strike blocked by Callum Elder.

Another ex-Tiger in Tom Cairney almost set up Pereira as the midfielder volleyed over before Kurzawa put the visitors in front on the 37th minute. Good build-up play between Cairney and Wilson saw the latter fire an effort towards goal. The shot was parried by Ingram into the path of Kurzawa who placed the rebound into the far corner.

The Tigers immediately searched for an equaliser as Ozan Tufan saw his shot blocked as the Cottagers held a 1-0 lead at half-time.
