Dronfield Town 1-2 North Ferriby

“Our play tonight was very controlled” “They dug in really well and made life difficult for us.” A positive performance and we should have won by more. These were the general thoughts of North Ferriby FC manager Chris Bolder on his sides 2-1 victory at Dronfield. This victory made it six league wins on the bounce for the Villagers.

The Villagers did not have it their own way however and found themselves 1-0 down after only 4 minutes as James Bennion out jumped Ferriby goalkeeper Jordan Douglas and head the home side into the lead.

The Villagers rallied and despite taking a while to get into full flow asserted their dominance on the game. It was a quick throw-in from Danny East caught the Dronfield defence napping and allowed Danny Emerton to run with the ball and play a ball across the face of the goal to a wide-open Harvey Carew. The young winger calmly slotted his shot into the goal despite the best efforts of Dronfield number one Lewis Naylor who got a touch on the goal-bound effort.

The Villagers remained in control and a free-kick from Jamie Forrester fizzed across the goal and any touch from a Ferriby player and they would have scored. Danny East had a great opportunity just before halftime, but his shot went over the bar from close range.

The Villagers assured performance continued into the second half and nearly took the lead through efforts courtesy of Danny East and Danny Emerton. East headed straight at Naylor and Emerton saw an effort from outside the area trickle wide of the Dronfield goal.

It was Ferriby captain Niall Tilsley who put the Villagers ahead with a powerful header after he reacted quickest from a well-delivered corner by Jamie Forrester. This gave the Villagers a well-deserved lead. The Villagers managed the rest of the game well and could have made it 3 but Danny Emerton failed to convert a great chance after he capitalised on a mix up between the Dronfield defence and Naylor in the Dronfield net.

Chris Bolder was full of admiration of his side’s performance and added that “Our play tonight was very controlled”. Speaking on his sides resiliency after conceding early on, Bolder praised his side further “The character that the lads showed and the quality of the football I thought we were well worth our victory”. Bolder also praised the determination shown by the hosts, “They dug in really well and made life difficult for us”.
