Driving lessons for 10-year-olds
Driving lessons for children as young as ten are to be offered by a company using the facilities at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield.
Young Driver Training Limited run courses at centres throughout the country and say they have given more than half-a-million lessons since it started delivering them nine years ago.
The lessons will be given in dual-controlled Vauxhall Corsas, with highly-qualified approved driving instructors and will use the base’s internal road system at least once a month, beginning on July 22.
A specially laid out road system will include traffic signs, roundabouts and junctions, with areas to practice manoeuvres including steering, control and parking. The only restriction is that those taking part must be taller than 1.4 metres. A 30 minute lesson costs £36.45, plus a £1.50 booking fee.
“Research shows that training drivers over a longer period of time and catching youngsters when their attitudes towards driving are still developing is key to producing a safer driver,” said a spokesman for Young Driver Training Limited.
Other dates pencilled in at Leconfield are August 11th, September 8th and 29th, October 21st and November 24th. More information from www.youngdriver.eu
