Decision soon on Walkington homes plan
Planning councillors will next week be recommended to approve plans to build 31 homes on land off Little Weighton Road in Walkington, subject to an agreement being reached within two months to secure affordable housing as part of the scheme and securing financial contributions towards the provision of sports and recreational facilities in the area.
The meeting of the Eastern Area Planning Sub-Committee next Monday (June 10) will be voting on the scheme by Duchy Homes Limited which had been deferred at a previous meeting to allow for a site visit to take place. Walkington Parish Council had urged rejection of the scheme, which involves the demolition of an existing property, claiming it did not meet the village’s housing needs and that proposed road improvements did not cater for increased traffic.
The committee received 39 objections to the scheme in total with 26 responses in support. In making their recommendation to approve the scheme, subject to conditions, East Riding of Yorkshire Council officers proposed that no development should take place until a plan for some widening and passing bays, either temporary or permanent, was agreed for Little Weighton Road.
