Decision on controversial plan deferred
A decision on a controversial outline planning application that would see up to 90 houses built on land north west of Poplars Way in Beverley has been deferred by East Riding of Yorkshire councillors pending a site visit. Some 112 residents living nearby have already petitioned the council urging them to reject the plan, as have a nearby quarry firm.
Members of the council’s planning committee were told at their meeting last week that Woodmansey Parish Council supports the plan in principal while expressing concerns over increased traffic and the loss of a potential expansion site for the neighbouring cemetery. Meanwhile Beverley Town Council has opposed the plan on the grounds of over development of the site and additional traffic.
Planning officers had recommended approval subject to certain conditions, including the provision of affordable housing and open space.
