Crowds cheer home Gregan in Beverley 10K
Huge crowds turned out to cheer home the record-breaking 1,750 runners taking part in this year’s Beverley 10K road race, sponsored by The Pittaway Group. And first home was Gregan Clarkson from Kingston upon Hull Athletics Club, who finished with a time of 33 minutes and 11 seconds.
The race, regarded as one of the premier road race events in the regional calendar, started from the Minster at 11.15am and followed a route through the town, through North Bar, across the Westwood to Walkington and then returning to Wednesday Market.
Tim Davies, of Leeds Atheltics club, finished second in a time of 33 minutes and 27 seconds, and Ben Sadowj from Barton and District Athletics Club third after 33 minutes and 36 seconds. The women’s race was won by Becky Rigby from Preston Harriers and Athletics club after 35 minutes and 49 seconds, finishing 15th overall.
Gregan has been involved in local athletics since 1999 and a member of Kingston upon Hull A.C. since it was formed in 2001. He has been on the committee for a number of years and for the last five years has also acted as the club’s social secretary, amongst other things helping to organise the club’s annual Christmas and Presentation Evening.
As a senior athlete Gregan competes on the road, on the track and in cross country events all over the country just about every weekend of the year.
Ahead of the main event youngsters and families took part in a fun run at Beverley Leisure Centre.
