Cricket: Rain the only winner!
Not for the first time this season the sides in Hunters Yorkshire Premier League North were left frustrated as a prolonged period of rain caused the cancellation of all but one of the latest round of matches on Saturday.
Beverley’s First XI were due to take on Harrogate Cricket Club at Harrogate, but the match was cancelled, with both sides being awarded three points.
The only play possible was the three overs and three balls bowled at Common Lane in the match between Dunnington and Yorkshire Academy. Those 18 balls provided just enough time for Jonathan Anderson to pick up the wicket of ‘Academy skipper James Wharton for one and were enough to guarantee both sides five points.
That was two more than the rest of the sides picked up for their abandoned games but was not enough to impact on the league standings. With a third of the season now gone last year’s runners up Woodhouse Grange hold a slender advantage at the top over second placed Dunnington and at the other end of the table Beverley Town and Clifton Alliance will be hoping for a change in fortune as they currently occupy the relegation places.
