College nets new sporting partnership
Bishop Burton College has been named as the premier training hub in East Yorkshire for Leeds Rhinos Netball, a new team set up under the umbrella of the Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Super League club. It follows a shake-up in the professional netball ranks and will see the East Yorkshire college helping to recruit talented athletes from across the region and improve their game play.
The college has forged an impressive reputation in netball, fast becoming the team to beat in Yorkshire and Jo Richardson, head coach at Bishop Burton College, said: “Leeds Rhinos is an established name within elite sport so to work with them on the development of this new initiative is a fantastic opportunity, both for the college and the players.”
Last year, Yorkshire Jets – the Superleague team which had represented Yorkshire – was not awarded a franchise for the current competition. Some of those involved in the Jets are involved in this new venture, bringing their expertise and experience to the partnership, and are committed to bringing Superleague netball back to Yorkshire. The Bishop Burton academy hub will cater for all age ranges; from under 13s, through to under 17s. Academy players will train every Friday evening at the college and will complete intensive training camps during school holidays. The college will be hosting trials ahead of the start of the new academic year.
