Calendar of countryside events

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s countryside access team has arranged several events and activities in March. They include:

Sunday, 11th March: 10am – 12 noon,  Bird Watching for Beginners Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve (meet at the black mill on Hessle foreshore).  This will be a Mother’s Day event with a difference – a stroll round the reserve, up to one mile, with a chance to see the local birdlife, learn how to identify them, and pick up tips on using binoculars. The walk will be led by  a local birdwatching guide from Yorkshire Coast Nature.

Sunday, 18th March: 10am – 1pm, Spring Photographic Wander – Oakhill Nature Reserve, off Tom Pudding Way, Goole (near Tesco distribution centre). A chance to join the Friends of Oakhill for a photographic exploration of the reserve. The walk will be up two miles.

Tuesday, 20th March: 10am – 12.30 pm,  Enjoy Spring in the Wolds: A Welton Wander: Meet near The Green Dragon, Welton – a circular walk  of 4.3 miles which acts a great introduction to  The Yorkshire Wolds Way. A chance to enjoy the rolling Wolds, views across the Humber estuary and a walk in the footsteps of an infamous highwayman. Food and drink will be available at The Green Dragon.

Tuesday, 27th March:  Kids Go Wild: Nest Building for Beginners!, 10am – 12 noon or 1.30-3.30pm: Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve: At the black mill on Hessle foreshore. A chance to discover how and why birds build their nests, and to have a go at building your own! Also a chance to make decorative eggs with wildlife artist Michele Davy, and hunt for eggs in the woods. Suitable for children, accompanied by adults.

Costs : 11 March Bird Watching event : £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for adults over 60; 18 March Wander – free event; 20 March Welton Wander: £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for adults over 60; 27 March Kids Go Wild: £2.50 for children; accompanying adults are free.
