Briggs & Powell shop sold

An, as yet, unnamed buyer has purchased the former Briggs & Powell shop in Saturday Market. Often referred to as Beverley’s oldest retailer, Briggs & Powell closed its doors in February after trading in the town since 1896.

The freehold was advertised at “offers over £750,000” and this week it was revealed a buyer had been found amid strong competition.

Agents Scotts confirmed the sale had gone through to an out-of-town investor and it’s expected work on alterations to the interior of the premises will begin very soon with a view to securing a tenant.

The sale of what is seen as an important trading location reflects the current booming position of Beverley as a shopping centre, with outlets such as Hotel Chocolat, Mint Velvet and Seasalt all opening in prime locations, with more yet to come.
