Beverley’s new Mayor named

One of Beverley’s longest-serving councillors, Bryan Pearson, has been elected as the town’s New Mayor, succeeding Councillor Ann Willis at Monday night’s Mayor-making ceremony in The Guildhall. Councillor Duncan Jack was elected Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Pearson, a Conservative, who is also a member of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, is Beverley born and bred and was first elected as long ago as 1976. Over the years he has also served on the former Beverley Borough and Humberside County Councils and has been secretary of the town’s Grosvenor club for 42 years.

Married to Shirley, Councillor and Mrs Pearson (pictured) have two sons, Richard and John. This is not the first time he has held the office of town Mayor but he said recently he would probably retire at the next election. “Beverley is part of me and I am part of it. I couldn’t think of a better place to live,” he told us.
