Beverley restaurants in 2019 Good Food Guide

A second Beverley restaurant has made it into the 2019 edition of the UK Good Food Guide, just a year after opening in the town. The Pig and Whistle, in Sow Hill Road, describes itself as a “pint-sized bistro-cum-charcuterie, and was opened by award-winning chef James Allcock last summer.

Mr Allcock, who will be talking to Roy Woodcock on this Thursday’s Morning Mix programme (September 13th) told us: “I thought we were too small to get in the guide. To do it in the first year is amazing.” The guide classifies the Pig and Whistle as a “local gem” and praises its range of tapas-style small plates such as smoked fallow deer tartare with egg yolk and sourdough and crab tartin with pickled fennel.

The Pig and Whistle joins Whites, the only other Beverley restaurant to be featured in the guide, along with two other East Riding eateries: The Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass at South Dalton and The Star at Sancton. Whites, currently celebrating its tenth anniversary, notches up 10 consecutive years in the guide and its cooking score puts in amongst the top ten in Yorkshire.
