Beverley misses out on cycling ‘grand prix’
A popular cycle race that’s been held in Beverley during the summer for the past decade will not be taking place in the town this year; instead the event will switch to Barnsley. The Beverley Grand Prix has attracted big crowds to the town centre in previous years, featuring as it did as part of the HSBC National Circuit Series for both men and women riders.
In making the announcement British Cycling said the organisers of the Beverley race, along with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, felt they did not have the resources to host the event this year. A spokesman for the council said they were disappointed the race would not go ahead and said the council was a keen supporter of cycling events. He told us: “If the opportunity to bring the Elite Circuit Race Series back to Beverley presents itself in the future, the council will be very interested in supporting the event again.”
