Beverley CCTV update
Around 25 people responded to the recent appeal by Beverley Police, seeking to recruit new volunteers, whose tasks could include monitoring the town’s CCTV system at busy times, including Friday and Saturday evenings.
As previously reported by Beverley FM, Inspector Mark Coulthard, senior officer in charge of the Beverley Rural policing team, is keen for more people to join the Humberside Force’s Community Safety Volunteer scheme following concerns expressed by listeners to this station about the effectiveness of the town’s CCTV system. Screens at Beverley police station are generally monitored by civilian staff as part of their duties during the day; now it is hoped to fast-track the new potential volunteers so that screens can be monitored at other times.
The initiative could well prove to be the last instigated by Inspector Coulthard, who has announced he is retiring from the Force this week after a career spanning 22 years. Prior to that he had served in the Army.
