Beck barge event cancelled because of weather
Bad weather has forced the cancellation of tomorrow’s world barge pulling championships (Sunday September 23), organised by the Beverley Barge Preservation Society on Beverley Beck. Society spokesman Brian Holmes told Beverley FM: “We took the decision on Friday to cancel the event – the weather forecast was too bad for us to risk teams and spectators.”
He continued: “The teams would be pulling the 64-ton barge Syntan along Beverley Beck with a strong wind trying to pull it away from them and all this in what was forecast as pouring rain. It was hard to make this decision but the safety of competitors and spectators must come first. We will be back in 2019,” he pledged.
