Barnsley 0-2 Hull City

Goals in each half helped secure Hull City all three points against Barnsley with a 2-0 victory in the Sky Bet Championship. Finishes from George Honeyman and Keane Lewis-Potter gave the Tigers a well-deserved victory at Oakwell.

Grant McCann made two changes to the starting XI that faced West Bromwich Albion last time out. Di’Shon Bernard replaced the injured Alfie Jones in defence, while Nathan Baxter started his first league fixture for the Tigers, replacing Matt Ingram.

Richie Smallwood had the first opportunity of the game as he volleyed over Lewis-Potter’s cross before Josh Magennis drilled a left-footed shot wide. Greg Docherty was next to take aim, but his half-volley was blocked before Jacob Greaves headed wide from Lewie Coyle’s delivery.

Honeyman then forced a punched clearance from Brad Collins, after a short corner routine, before Devante Cole headed over Josh Benson’s free-kick delivery at the other end. Following a quick counter-attack from Mallik Wilks, Coyle curled a left-footed effort wide while Callum Elder forced a good save from Collins. In the other goal, Baxter pushed away Callum Brittain’s powerful drive, before holding onto the header by Michal Helik from the resulting corner.

The Tigers made their opening dominance count as they opened the scoring on the 33rd minute. Collins initially saved from Liam Kitching who nearly diverted Magennis’ low cross into his own net, and the rebound fell kindly to Honeyman who rifled his effort into the far corner. Wilks almost doubled the Tigers’ lead moments later, but his looping header went narrowly wide, while Aaron Leya Iseka fired a long-range effort over the bar for Barnsley.
