Bags of help from supermarket
Since Tesco launched its Bags of Help scheme for the Beverley area last year, a total of £63,000 has been awarded to local schools and community groups. Now customers of the store are being given the chance to vote on three new projects. They are: Walkington Pre-school’s bike balance challenge, Keldmarsh Primary School’s quiet area refurbishment and Bishop Burton Parish Council’s replacement of community benches.
Customers can vote up to August 31st and the one that receives the most votes will get a grant of up to £4,000, second place receiving up to £2,000 and third place up to £1,000. And Tesco is now looking for applications from other local schools and groups. The criteria for funding has been widened to include not only environmental improvements or activities that support the sustainability of our outdoor environment such as school gardens and community allotments, but also for many other projects, such as purchasing sports kits, improvements to a Scout or Guide hut and funding community events such as village fetes.
