ASH’s are a huge success
A cricket tournament and family fun day in memory of former Cherry Burton Cricket Club chairman and player Ashley Godber, who tragically died in a road accident earlier this year, proved a huge success.
The event, on Sunday August 20, attracted 10 teams and large support. The teams were playing for the Ashley Godber Memorial Trophy, which saw a final between Godber’s All Stars and Godber’s Old Boys. James Windeatt, captain of the All Stars, eventually lifted the trophy after a thrilling contest.
With money still coming in, the family fun day exceeded all expectations, said club spokesman David Butt. The money raised will be given to causes chosen by the Godber family.
“The whole event has blown us away with its successes and we really cannot wait to go again next year,” he said.
