Arts Council grant lights up Beverley theatre
Beverley’s East Riding Theatre has secured major funding from the Arts Council which will allow it to install a new permanent lighting rig in the main auditorium. It will mean the theatre will be able to stage more ambitious in-house productions as well as hosting bigger-scale touring shows in the future, according to planning and funding director Anne Cooper.
The theatre had launched its own lighting tree appeal, which has brought in around £10,000. But in addition to that, a funding application to the Arts Council has secured a further £40,000 alongside a further £10,000 donation from the town’s now disbanded Catholic Club. A planning application taking into account the theatre’s listed building status is currently being prepared, but it is hoped to have the new energy-efficient lighting system in place by the end of August.
