Arson probe after Beverley blaze
Four fire crews were called into action last Thursday afternoon (June 21st) after a fierce blaze broke out at a former care home in Langholm Close, Beverley. The alert was raised at 3.44pm and at the height of the blaze, a total of 25 fire fighters, wearing breathing apparatus, were battling to stop flames spreading.
Huge palls of smoke were visible over a wide area after the fire caught hold in one of the wings of the former old people home, which was known as Westwood Park. The home closed some two years ago and its understood the empty building has been a target for vandalism, leaving parts of it derelict. At this stage, the cause of the blaze is unknown but fire officers are investigating it as a possible arson attack.
The building’s owners, the Londesborough Health Care Group, who want to demolish the building and build a new care home, said incidents involving four intruders at the site had been reported to the police.
