£62,000 Lottery grant to Beverley charity

Beverley’s Cherry Tree Community Centre has been awarded a £62,150 National Lottery grant. The Centre, in Cherry Tree Lane, was founded in 1996 and works with those in the community struggling with varying degrees of poverty.

A registered charity, the centre is a hub for help and support for a variety of social, personal and community issues. It offers free legal advice, hosts an OFSTED inspected pre-school, the Gruffalos, which aims to provide an affordable out of school club, distributes Beverley Food Bank vouchers and houses a branch of the Credit Union.

The Lottery funding will support the centre to deliver and expand its free advice service and drop-in sessions to benefit more local people. It will also support the centre to increase volunteering opportunities. The Cherry Tree Centre is currently open Monday to Friday during the day but it is now hoped to extend those hours to Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings from the end of this month.
