£17,000 boost for Beck project
Beverley Town Council has been awarded £17,000 by East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of Commuted Sums, collected from housing developers. The funding has been awarded towards interpretation boards and artwork, carved nature trail posts, benches and nature boxes for bats, birds, hedgehogs, bugs and bees along Beverley Beck.
The project is expected to cost £19,700 in total, with the extra funding coming from sponsorship and Beverley Town Council themselves. The aim of the project is to encourage greater use and knowledge of Beverley Beck, from the flyover to where it meets the River Hull.
It will also help to create a link with other free pastures of the town, Figham and Swinemoor, and complement existing projects that promote the industrial heritage of the Beck.
Beverley Town Clerk Helen Watson told us: “It’s a lovely area and a beautiful walk and we want to tidy it all up and make it look better so that more people use the area.”
